Description

A handsome and most unusual pair of early twentieth century Opera glasses by the top notch London retailer, Asprey, London.
Made from Abalone shell with it's richer colour compared to Mother of Pearl, with a rainbow of deep colours and a wonderful iridescent quality. Asprey paired this with polished brass and black lacquer creating a sophisticated example.
They have an extending lorgnette handle and are signed on each eye piece, "Asprey London" and they come with a (new) protective pouch. They are in excellent working condition.
While folded up, they measure 4" x 1 3/4" x 1 3/4".
Founded in 1781 by William Asprey, was originally based in Mitcham, Surrey until the company moved into central London premises. From there, Asprey advertised ‘articles of exclusive design and high quality', whether for personal adornment or personal accompaniment and to endow with richness and beauty the table and homes of people of refinement and discernment.
