Description

An excellent example of a First World War military compass. It is fully functioning, has a brass case and is mounted with lanyard ring. The glass face and numbered brass outer ring are perfectly intact. The rear of the case is stamped with war department arrows and the date 1917.
It is complete with brown leather case with hinged top and buckle fastener, wear commensurate with age. There are traces of the original owner's details "2nd Lt. A.H. Hyde M.G.C" (the Machine Gun Corps (MGC) was a corps of the British Army, formed in October 1915 in response to the need for more effective use of machine guns on the Western Front in World War I).
A great clean example in excellent condition. 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 7/8" thick. The case measuring 4" x 3" x 2".
