Description

A most unusual antique English ice pail or bucket, the body made from salt glazed stoneware in the form of a coopered wooden bucket stamped on the underside for T. Smith and Co / Old Kent Road / London.
There is a ridge on the interior where a silver plated drainer sits to let drips of water pass trough to the bottom leaving the ice dry loose.
The rim and handle are made from solid silver hallmarked for Birmingham 1873 together with the Queen Victoria's head duty mark, always desirable by collectors. The makers mark is also present for Jonas & George Bowen.
It measures 4.75 inches (12.1cms) tall excluding the handle and approx. 8.25 inches (1cms) including it x 4.5 inches (11.5cms) across the rim and 3.5 inches (9cms) across the base.
A rare find in excellent undamaged condition.
