Description

A fabulous antique English two-bottle tantalus by the highly sought-after silversmith, John Grinsell and Sons of Birmingham dating to around 1890 / 1900.
These were advertised by Grinsell as "Lock-Up Liquor Frames" with showrooms in London and Glasgow. The two cut-crystal decanters in this example are quite magnificent with beautiful hand-cutting.
The frame is made from silver plate and marked on the side (cupid into a shield). Once unlocked, the barrel lock is pressed down to release the bar to the top, pushed to the back allowing the two decanters to be accessed.
Dating to the late Victorian era, c.1890/1900, it remains in superb condition. The frame measures 12 1/2" x 7 3/4" x 13 1/4" tall to top of handle. Each bottle measures 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and standing 9 1/2" tall.
