Description

A superb and very elegant pair of postal scales, petite in size, spanning 6 1/4" x 3 3/4" x 4" tall. Made from two tones of polished English brass, the base a rose coloured brass and the balance a yellow coloured brass. The balance is signed, "Nicholls, Windermere" in the famous English Lake District, Cumbria.
The set of weights sit in the original cradle which is engraved with the postage rates of the late Victorian era, allowing us to date them accurately to pre-1897. The underside is lucky enough to have retained the original velvet covering.
Superb condition.
