Description
A superb Edwardian tea caddy made from an extremely heavy gauge of silver, the caddy weighing 7.3 Troy Ounces / 229.89 Grams. Of course, once one sees that this was made by one of the most famous of silversmith's, Mappin & Webb of London, the quality is evident.
The oval shaped caddy has a raised decorative border to the top and bottom and either side, a very handsome Lion's head with a delightful swing handle with a shell motif.
The top finial is made from carved Ebony wood, (one hairline in the wood, shown and mentioned purely for accuracy). The hinged lid opens to reveal a lavishly gilded interior.
The caddy and lid are hallmarked for London 1909, together with the silversmith's initials.
Excellent condition, measuring 4" x 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" tall to top of finial.
