Description

A fabulous and very handsome early Victorian artist's box by the world famous Winsor & Newton, Rathbone Place, London.
The Mahogany box is in better condition than most with a good bright patina and a flush campaign style brass handle to the front of the drawer. The tasseled key is for display purposes only and does not work the lock.
The box opens to reveal the opulent gold on deep plum coloured paper lining in superb condition with the wording around the outside " Artists Colourmen By Special Appointment To Their Majesties The King and Queen / 38 Rathbone Place, London, England ".
The box contains a good selection of original paint blocks, two glass water bowls and in the drawer a small ceramic palette (marked on the underside Winsor and Newton) and a single sheet of old paper.
Superb condition measuring 11 3/4" x 8 1/2" x 3 1/4".
