Description

A really wonderful example of a late Victorian stationery cabinet, made from Burl Walnut (really, my very favourite timber) with it's exquisite grain and cognac colouring.
The slope fronted doors have a beautiful curved edging, all cross-banded, a real sign of quality. There is a brass escutcheon which houses the working key.
The cabinet opens to reveal a fully fitted interior, with the door interior on the left for notes and business cards and the removable framed slate on the opposite door to write notes etc.
There are two period brass topped inkwells (which I found this week and fit well) either side of the removable pen tray with space underneath for keeping pens, nibs and the like. There are various sections to store stationery.
The top lifts to reveal the shallow, narrow tray which holds the perpetual calendar with glazed apertures and knobs to forward and rewind the day, date and month within; underneath is a large section the depth of the cabinet to store large papers or stationery.
There is also a drawer to the bottom of the box which can only be slid open while the box is unlocked and is held secure when the doors are shut.
A beautiful and useful desk-top gem for the lady or gentleman. Excellent condition, measuring 12 1/2 x 10" x 12 1/2" tall at the rear.
