Description
A wonderful and most unusual sewing box made from Exotic Rosewood in the form of the basket complete with handle.The two curved lids are beautifully and skilfully inlaid with brass and Ivory creating a floral and foliate motif. There are a couple of the fine tips of the brass that have gone missing over the last 200 years, this tiny spots have been filled and the box professionally re-polished, mentioned purely for accuracy.
All sides are decorated with a simple inlaid brass stringing, the handle also has some additional Ivory inlaid.
The interior is quite wonderful, totally original in this deep pink paper, very typical of the Regency era, around 1820. The box also stands on it's four original turned Rosewood bun feet. Excellent condition, measuring 10 3/4" x 5 3/4" x 6" tall.
