Description
I purchased this wonderful prayer book as Ivory and silver but am selling as white metal as the silver content is most likely not sterling standard as with most continental silver. The wonderful mount bears the banner at the top labelled INRI, INRI is an acronym of the Latin inscription IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDﾆORVM (Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum), which translates to English as "Jesus the Nazarene (Galilean), King of the Jews (Judeans)".The book is covered back and front bound in creamy antique Ivory with a beautiful glossy patina, the spine is also finished in Ivory on blue velvet.
The interior is in beautiful condition with usual minor foxing, and dated 1860.
A superb example in excellent condition measuring 5" x 3 5/8" x 1 1/4" thick.
